In-House Programs
NYH IN-HOUSE PROGRAM OVERVIEW - 2023/2024
The goal of the NYH In-House program is to create a fun environment for younger and less experienced players to develop their skating and hockey skills.
Players of ALL abilities are welcome and encouraged to play, including older players who are new to hockey. Players are grouped based on a combination of age, size and skill level.
The In-House program is designed to provide flexibility for players to move up or down a level during the season based on how they are progressing.
IN-HOUSE LEVELS
LEARN TO SKATE (LTS)
- Ages 3 and up
- No prior skating experience required
- One practice weekly
- Focus exclusively on skating. Sticks may be introduced later in the season.
- Full equipment with hockey helmet and cage required. No bike helmets. Shoulder pads are optional.
- All players who register receive a NYH jersey
- Cost: $375
- Schedule: Saturday mornings November-February at St. Sebastian's rink.
LEARN TO PLAY (LTP 1 & 2)
- Ages: 4-8 years old (2015-2019 birth years)
- Must complete NYH LTS or other equivalent LTS program
- Continued focus on skating with introduction to hockey skills
- Full equipment with hockey helmet and cage required. No bike helmets.
- Players are evaluated during the first few weeks of the season and split into LTP1 (more beginner) and LTP2 (more advanced)
- Teams are assembled and balanced based on age and skill
- All players who register receive a NYH jersey
- Cost: $725
- Schedule: Saturday & Sunday mornings at St. Sebastian's rink. Season starts in October and runs through mid-March.
DEVELOPMENT
- Ages: 6-9 years old (2017, 2016, 2015, 2014 birth years)
- 2016's must complete NYH LTP 2 or other equivalent LTP program
- Continued focus on skating with more emphasis on hockey skills and game scenarios
- Full equipment with hockey helmet and cage required. No bike helmets.
- Team(s) will compete in the Town Line League
- All players who register receive a NYH jersey
- Cost: $1500
- Schedule: Saturday & Sunday mornings with an additonal mid-week practice when ice is available. Saturday practices are held at St. Sebastian's rink. Games are played Sunday mornings at Bajko Rink in Hyde Park starting in November and running through early March.
COACHING/VOLUNTEERING
The success of this program is dependent on our volunteer coaches. Extensive hockey experience is not required. If you can skate and enjoy working with young kids we can use your help. Off-ice volunteers are also needed. Please indicate your interest in coaching and/or volunteering on your registration.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Players who attended tryouts for a NYH Travel team and were not selected will be placed in LTP or Development. You are not required to register again. If you tried out for a Travel team and have not been contacted about a placement please let us know.
