Travel Hockey (U8,U10,U12,U14)
Below is a brief summary of the NYH travel program for 2024/25 for U8, U10, U12 & U14 age groups.
Ages
NYH offers a travel hockey program for Needham and Dover children. Teams are aligned by the USA Hockey age groups. The age groups will be as follows:

2017 & 2016 - Mites (U8)
2014 & 2015 - Squirts (U10)
2012 & 2013 - PeeWees (U12)
2010 & 2011 - Bantams (U14)
When
Early September through Early April
Where
Practices are held at Babson College and St. Sebastian's. Games may be played across the Greater Boston region.
Practices
Teams practice 1-2 times per week. Schedule may vary based on availability of ice time.
GAMES
Teams will play 1-2 games a week.
Jerseys
Needham Youth Hockey game and practice jerseys are required and may be purchased through Arrow Sports Group in the May timeframe.
EXTRA COSTS
Depending on interest level, each team may play in a tournament throughout the year. The costs for the tournament and any lodging will be in addition to the annual NYHA fees. This is entirely at each parents discretion however tournaments offer the players to bond over a weekend both on and off the ice.
New 2024-25 Season Tryout & Commitment Fee Pricing
We listened to feedback on our tryout fees! For the 2024-25 season, we have reduced our tryout fee from $750 to $400. This tryout fee will be applied towards your skater’s 2024-25 tuition and is due at registration. If you choose not to play Needham Youth Hockey for the 2024-25 season, please know that this fee, and any subsequent fee that you pay, is non-refundable once the first night of tryouts begin. Please ensure that you register by March 8, 2024, to be eligible to attend tryouts.
On April 1st, after tryouts are completed but before teams are announced, all registered skaters will be assessed their second installment payment of $400 for the 2024-25 season. This is a commitment fee which signals to us that you fully intend to play on a NYHA team in the 2024-25 season. This fee is non-refundable and cannot be used to offset other NYHA family commitments/players.
The NYHA Board and our volunteer evaluators put a lot of effort into creating teams. We are instituting this policy to verify that players assigned to teams are committed to playing for NYHA. This allows us to finalize teams and eliminates complicated changes following team-announcements. Teams will be announced starting on April 8th.
Additionally, we have elected to spread the payments over a broader time period, which hopefully makes it easier for our Needham Youth Hockey Families.
